Join the Carlisle Trails Committee to explore new trail connections from Carlisle to over 600 acres of conservation land in Acton.  This is a great opportunity to expand your walking universe while enjoying the fall foliage.  The walk will start at 1:00 pm at CCF’s Ben’s Woods property at the corner of West Street and Pope Road.  Parking is along the side of West Street past Pope Road.  We’ll follow Marion’s Trail to the Acton border, then new trails in the Robbins Mill conservation land, connecting to the Spring Hill and Camp Acton trail networks.  The walk is 3 miles, will take about 2 hours, and there will be refreshments at the end.  Heavy rain cancels the walk.  For questions, contact Steve Tobin at sptobin@comcast.net

As part of Carlisle’s Old Home Day weekend, the Trails Committee will lead a marathon walking and ice-cream-eating extravaganza starting at 11AM at the Carlisle School parking lot and returning back to the school at around 4PM. The schedule for those preferring to do only part of the seven-mile walk is as follows: 

11AM Meet at Carlisle School parking lot. Walk to Kimball’s, buy ice cream, and eat it at leisure at a picnic table or on the grass.  Local historian Anne Marie Brako will talk about the history of the Bates Farm area.

11:45AM Walk 2.8 miles to Great Brook Farm Ice Cream via Cutter’s Ridge, Heartbreak Ridge, and Pine Point Loop trails, arriving around 1:30.  Buy ice cream and relax on the grassy hillside by the pond. 

2PM Leave Great Brook and walk 3.5 miles back to the Carlisle School parking lot via Fern Loop, Old Morse Road, and Conant Land trails. 

4PM Return to Carlisle School parking lot. Spot a car or meet at Great Brook Farm to do only half the walk. Sunscreen, drinking water and bug spray are recommended. For more information, email Alan Ankers at alankers@comcast.net.

Come join the Carlisle Trails Committee in a celebration of our local Wild and Scenic River on Saturday June 21.  The public is invited to a 3.5 mile walk through meadows and forests on trails paralleling the Concord River.  We will start at the Foss Farm conservation land and pass through Great Meadows Wildlife Refuge and the O’Rourke farm on the way to scenic Greenough Pond in the Greenough conservation land.  If the water level is low enough we will return through the floodplain via the River Trail, or else retrace our steps.  The walk starts at 1:30 pm on Saturday June 21 and should finish by 4:00.  Meet at the Foss Farm parking lot, 0.3 mi west of the Concord River bridge on Rte. 225.  Waterproof shoes and insect repellent are recommended.  Refreshments will be served at the end of the walk.  For more information, email Alan Ankers at alankers@comcast.net.

The public is invited to join the Carlisle Trails Committee for a post-Thanksgiving walk in Estabrook Woods.  Here’s your chance to work off some of that extra stuffing in a beautiful setting.  If you’ve always wanted to explore Estabrook Woods but were afraid of getting lost, this walk is for you.  Our 3-mile loop will include historical and natural points of interest such as the Estabrook and Kibbe cellar holes, lime quarries and lime kiln, Thoreau’s saw mill site, Mink Pond, and recent beaver activity.  The walk will take about 2 hours including several stops.   Meet at the intersection of Estabrook Road and Kibby Place at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29.  There will be refreshments at the end.  Heavy rain cancels the trip.

Wear long pants and boots and bring work gloves, bug spray, and a water bottle. Bring bow saws, loppers, swing blades or pruning tools if you have them, or borrow theirs. In honor of Riverfest 2012, the Carlisle Trails Committee will conduct a late afternoon walk to the wildlife observation platform in the Benfield Conservation Land along Spencer Brook, a tributary of the Assabet river. We’ll start at 4PM at the Spencer Brook Reservation, walking through the fields and woods there, take a short walk along South Street, then enter the Benfield land. A hidden back field slopes down to the extensive Spencer Brook wetlands, a gem of wilderness not many are familiar with. The new platform will bring us out to the edge of Spencer Brook, where we’ll have a 360 degree view of the late afternoon marsh with all its attending birds and wildlife. The walk, about 1.6 miles round trip, starts at 4 pm on Saturday June 11th. Park along West Street south of Pope Road. Bring mosquito repellent!. Refreshments will be served at the end. Calling all trail volunteers! Irene left a mess on all the trails in town - everything is down from small twigs to large trees. Come help the Trails Committee clean up the trails on Saturday, Sept. 17 or Sunday, Sept. 25. Meet at the Town Hall, 66 Westford St, at 9 am both days. We'll send out crews from there. Bring work gloves, water, and bug spray, and bow saws, long-handled loppers or leaf rakes if you have them - if not, we have extra tools.
